Review: NASCAR's Roblox Game Falls Short with Limited Content

NASCAR's website promises an immersive experience, but the limited features and low session lengths prove otherwise.

Two weeks ago, NASCAR launched their newest Roblox game, ‘NASCAR Speed Hub’. While most companies have just started to enter the meta-galaxy of Roblox, NASCAR has created multiple branded games in the past. Described on their website as “an immersive 3D experience filled with social experiences” (yes that’s actually the phrase they used), I decided to play through and find out what NASCAR Speed Hub had to offer.

After a short intro showing the NASCAR 75th anniversary jacket they just released, you spawn into a racing themed lobby. There’s a parking lot of race cars, a video screen looping NASCAR clips, a mock restaurant, and signs pointing to their obby (slang for obstacle) course. The main ‘attraction’ of this game is the time trial racing mini-game, which was thoroughly disappointing. There’s no incentive other than to get the shortest lap time, and even though there is a leaderboard in the lobby, it is just a short local leaderboard. Personally, I think the most fun part of this game was the obby course, as it had certain gimmicks that made it difficult.

However one thing that was unique is if you follow a portal in the lobby, it takes you to on a journey through multiple partner games where they are hosting a treasure hunt. I admire NASCAR and Dubit’s efforts to generate traffic into other games.

Overall, there’s not much to NASCAR Speed Hub. The average session time this past week has been around 4 minutes and is declining. The time trial mode is only fun to play once, the car customization is nothing special, and the only draw is the obby course which isn’t very unique.

If you’re planning to bring your brand to Roblox, remember that short-form entertainment and quick games is not always the way to go. Check out the link below to read my review of PacSun’s branded Roblox game.
