Hollywood in the Metaverse: 5 Considerations for Content Creators

ā€œMetaverseā€ has quickly worked its way into the Hollywood lexicon as the idea, starting out as science fiction but now evolving into an attainable aspiration that companies are racing to bring to reality.

As entertainment powerhouses compete to launch various iterations of the metaverse, the time is ripe for creators and content companies to start planning how they will make their mark in this new virtual territory.

Click the button below to read about five key things to keep in mind as you head into this space.

ā€˜Fortniteā€™ Introduces New Bandcamp Radio Station

Billboard.com writes that Epic Games purchased the indie music marketplace last March, and this marks the first integration to emerge from the deal.

At the time of the acquisition, Epic pointed to its ā€œvision to build out a creator marketplace ecosystem for content, technology, games, art, music and moreā€.

This will give Epic easily-licensable music that it can bring to its Fortnite gaming experience while offering opportunity for Bandcamp artists to get their music heard.

Dave and Busterā€™s World on Roblox: Fun but Falls Short of Potential

As the demographic of Roblox rapidly expands, companies have begun creating their own games in attempts to connect with consumers on a more personal level. The most recent company to dip their foot into the metaverse (or rather meta-galaxy) of Roblox was none other than the arcade game giant themselves, Dave & Busterā€™s.

Dave & Busterā€™s World has accumulated around 1.27 million visits as of now, and has a 94% rating on Roblox, which is fairly high for a branded game.

Overall, Dave & Busterā€™s World fell short of my expectations. Itā€™s a fun game and definitely one of the better branded games, but failed to fulfill itā€™s gamifying potential. Read my full review to discover why, and how brands can improve their Roblox games in the future.

The new platform is called Innerworldā€”which is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health and available in VR on Meta Quest and on flat screens via Mac, PC, iPad and iPhoneā€”enables anyone seeking support to create an avatar and enter a world where they can find immediate resources on topics including coping with depression, loss, anxiety and ADHD; peer support groups for things like chronic illness and addiction recovery; and one-on-one assistance.

Why Digital Babel? Babel plays a role in the novel Snow Crash, where there was a theory that language is just code and that Babel was a real historical event. This coincided with the vanishing of the Sumerian language, and afterward, languages tended toward divergence rather than convergence. We may not all like the term ā€˜Metaverseā€™ but we need to give Snow Crash its due.
